08-01-07: Target Announced as Founding Sponsor of HITEC
MINNEAPOLIS - Today, the Hispanic IT Executive Council (HITEC) proudly announced retail giant Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) as one of its founding sponsors.
"We are honored and excited to have Target as a founding sponsor for HITEC," said David Olivencia, HITEC President. "They have a long-standing reputation for their commitment to diversity and their sponsorship of our organization serves as more evidence of that commitment."
"Target is a global leader in retail and we are exited at the opportunities this relationship will bring in the future for both organizations," Olivencia added.
Olivencia had the opportunity to meet with leadership of Target in the early stages of solidifying its sponsorship and had wonderful things to say about them.
"I've had the opportunity to meet Target's technology leadership including CIO, Janet Schalk, and can say they have exciting technology efforts underway, they are growing, and they are really excited about working with HITEC," said Olivencia.
David Olivencia also commented on his interaction with Solomon "Sol" Trujillo, CEO of Telstra and a member of Target's Board of Directors, who he met while attending a Harvard Business School course on corporate governance done in conjunction with the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility. Mr. Trujillo spoke to the class about his leadership background and issues surrounding corporate governance.
"Sol is an extremely talented leader, a role-model to many, and a tremendous asset to Target's Board of Directors," Olivencia said. "Target is truly blessed to have him on its esteemed Board of Directors."
About HITEC
HITEC (Hispanic IT Executive Council) was founded by senior Hispanic IT executives who have built outstanding careers in information technology but realized that there were far too few Hispanics in the IT leadership role. With a strong desire and passion to make an impact within the Hispanic IT community by helping others reach the highest levels, HITEC was formed in late 2006. These national leaders include executives leading Fortune 500 corporations on both U.S. and global initiatives while others lead some of the largest Hispanic owned IT firms in the United States.
