10-05-07: HITEC Partners with Hewlett Packard to Host 2nd Annual National Executive Leadership Summit


HOUSTON - Earlier this month the Hispanic Information Technology Council (HITEC), along with partnering sponsor Hewlett Packard (HP), successfully hosted it second annual National Executive Leadership Summit in Houston, TX.

 

Taking place from October 5-6, the event was held in conjunction with the National Society of Hispanic MBA's (NSHMBA) 18th Annual Conference.

 

The event featured keynote appearances by HP leadership, including John Snaider, who is responsible for HP's marketing and sales for the VP Personal Systems Group business. He delivered his keynote address at NSHMBA's Brillante Awards Dinner.

 

In addition, Victor Arias, Practice Leader at Korn Ferry International, provided a highly informative discussion on board leadership entitled "How to sit on a Board." Curvie Burton from the nationally-respected Information Technology Senior Management Forum (ITSMF) was also in attendance.

 

More than 30 members attended the event, which took place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Downtown Houston. Many new HITEC members attended representing other companies such as CEMEX, Chrysler, Forrester and IT Value Consulting among others.

 

Another event featured as part of HITEC's second annual National Executive Leadership Summit was the HP and Latina Style sponsored evening cocktail reception that allowed HITEC members to bond and share in their vast experiences from Fortune 500 companies to entrepreneurial firms.

 

This second event was filled with topics by Paul Valdez from CEMEX on SIM and Jose Ignacio Sordo Galarza from P&G on Understanding P&G IT.

 

"This event was a great springboard for HITEC's efforts in advancing Hispanic leadership in the IT arena," said David Olivencia, HITEC president and director at Oracle. "The event exceeded all of our expectations and was a tremendous showing of some of our nation's most talented Hispanic IT leaders, which underscores the need of our organization in today's business environment."

 

HITEC officials also emphasized its gratitude for HP's involvement in helping the organization host its second national event.

"It is great to see HP, the world's largest technology company, support the mission and vision of HITEC and NSHMBA. HP continues to show its leadership and HITEC looks forward to growing our relationship and helping HP into the future" also said David Olivencia, HITEC President.

 

HITEC leadership across the board were very encouraged by the event.

 

"I was delighted to see so many new members and everyone becoming active participants in the future of HITEC," said Alex Mainetto, director, Walt Disney Company and HITEC board member. "I truly believe that unity is going to continue to propel us forward."

 

HITEC was founded in December 2006 by senior Hispanic IT executives who have built successful careers in information technology and collectively shared a strong desire to make an impact within the Hispanic community by helping others reach the highest levels within information technology. These national leaders include senior-level executives of Fortune 500 corporations and Hispanic-owned IT firms in the United States.
