06-27-08: HITEC Member Hosts Important Disaster Recovery Exercise for Global Publication

ORLANDO - Giving evidence to the vital role of information technology in all emergency preparedness planning, HITEC member Rushdi Ariss, Director of Enterprise Availability for the Walt Disney Company, co-hosted the Disaster Recovery Journal’s Spring World 2008 Mock Disaster exercise in Orlando, FL this past April.

Taking place at Coronado Springs Resort at Walt Disney World, Ariss along with Ed Gabriel, Director of Global Crisis Management for Walt Disney, took conference attendees through an intense simulated disaster exercise designed to challenge the attendees to work through a catastrophic business-impacting event using the Incident Command Structure (ICS).

The ICS is a standardized, on-scene, all-hazard incident management concept based upon a flexible, scalable response organization providing a common framework within which people can work together effectively.

As professionals in crisis, emergency or business continuity management, conference participants focused on establishing the Incident Command team, evaluating data inputs and taking the proper actions. The exercise was run at an accelerated pace to simulate the added pressures of a real situation.

“These types of exercises and the lessons learned are vital to every organization’s operations,” said Rushdi Ariss. “I am very pleased to have facilitated such an important workshop on behalf of the Walt Disney Company and I am certain that all of our participants will benefit from what we presented.”
