11-1-06: Hispanic IT Senior Executives Form National Council

HITEC to cultivate Hispanic senior leadership in information technology

DETROIT-Recognizing the need to advance the role of Hispanics in information technology leadership, four Hispanic IT senior-level executives have come together to create the Hispanic IT Executive Council-also known as HITEC-a national leadership forum dedicated to preparing Hispanic IT executives to be world-class business and IT leaders.

HITEC was founded in November 2006 by senior Hispanic IT executives who have built successful careers in information technology and collectively shared a strong desire to make an impact within the Hispanic community by helping others reach the highest levels within information technology. These national leaders include senior-level executives of Fortune 500 corporations and Hispanic-owned IT firms in the United States.

"With so few Hispanics in leadership roles in information technology, many of our founding members have known each other and been colleagues for years," said Francisco DeArmas, HITEC chair and SIO Global Applications and Architecture for GMAC. "We have all made individual efforts to advance the roles of Hispanics in IT, but realized that by creating HITEC our collective efforts would make a much bigger impact."

With a mission of preparing Hispanic IT executives to be world-class business and IT leaders, HITEC will provide these executives with professional development and networking opportunities to help them become future leaders with the IT industry. HITEC also will serve in a strong advisory role for large organizations in helping to identify the most promising and savvy diverse talent within information technology.

"Through our daily interaction with many Fortune 500 companies, we have found that leading organizations are looking for a diverse IT executive team that will help them become more competitive in the growing global marketplace," said David H. Segura, HITEC vice-chair and CEO of VisionIT, Inc.

HITEC will meet on a quarterly basis throughout the United States to provide executive development. HITEC executive development will take place during two-day events and will provide HITEC members with engaging topics presented by leading experts. These topics will include discussions on globalization, understanding Hispanic population growth in the U.S., IT skill set trends, and leadership.

These quarterly events will also provide outstanding networking opportunities, which includes meeting with Fortune 500 senior executives.

In addition, HITEC will develop mentorship programs to assist Hispanic IT managers in reaching higher roles within their organizations.
