2-23-07: HITEC President meets with CEO of AMD

DETROIT-During a recent visit to Detroit to speak in front of the Detroit Economic Club, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) CEO Hector Ruiz took the time to meet with Hispanic IT Executive Council (HITEC) President David Olivencia in efforts to learn more about the newly formed national organization.

"It was an absolute honor to speak with such an accomplished Latino within information technology," said David Olivencia of HITEC. "Hector serves as inspiration to Latino professionals across the nation and is a great source of advice and encouragement for our efforts to advance Hispanics within IT."

Ruiz's address to the 73-year old club focused on the topic of the civic responsibility of today's CEO's. Ruiz highlighted a common characteristic of the most successful CEO's of the past 10 years-the understanding of the social impact that exists between business and society.

"To be a leader of a public company today is truly to be a public servant," said Ruiz in his address Tuesday. "And as such, we must not only follow the rule of law, but also follow the unwritten laws that exist in so many of the markets that we now compete in. It is far more important today to ask, 'is this the right thing to do?' first, before asking whether it is legal or not."
