SAN JOSE Calif., February 12, 2010 - Enrique Salem, President and CEO of Symantec, received the 2010 Estrella Award this evening at the IT Executive Achievement Awards hosted by the Hispanic IT Executive Council (HITEC) and the Information Technology Senior Management Forum (ITSMF) in San Jose, California.
The Estrella Award was established to recognize a Senior-Level Executive from a Fortune 1000 company. The recipient is selected based upon their proven leadership skills, their integrity, and the contributions they have made to advance the information technology industry.
“Enrique is a great role model and an inspiration for all of Hispanic IT executives. His accomplishments and rise to the top demonstrate that everything is possible when education, hard work, integrity and service to the community are part of the effort. He is only one of five Hispanic CEO's in the Fortune 500 ranks and he epitomizes everything the Estrella Award represents,” said J. Alberto Yepez, HITEC board chair. “To our HITEC executive members it is an inspiration to not settle for CIO, but go all the way to becoming a CEO!”
More than 500 corporate, government, and association IT executives and their guests attended the IT Executive Achievement Awards in San Jose, California. The keynote speaker for the black-tie event was Roland S. Martin, one of Ebony Magazine’s 150 Most influential African-Americans in the United States and the 2009 winner of the NAACP Image Award for Best interview.

About the Hispanic IT Executive Council:
HITEC (Hispanic IT Executive Council) was founded by senior Hispanic IT executives who have built outstanding careers in information technology but realized that there are far too few Hispanics in the IT leadership role. With a strong desire and passion to make an impact within the Hispanic IT community by helping others reach the highest levels, HITEC was formed in late 2006. These national leaders include executives leading Fortune 500 corporations on both U.S. and global initiatives while others lead some of the largest Hispanic owned IT firms in the United States.
