Nearly 300 IT business executives and senior leaders gathered at the Fannie Mae headquarters in Washington D.C. on August 24 & 25, 2017 for our summer 2017 HITEC Leadership Summit, "Bridging the Digital Divide & Enabling Digital Transformation." 

The two day event, hosted by Fannie Mae, featured a great lineup of technology leaders from across the country. Our expert speakers and panelists contributed their knowledge and expertise on digital transformation, emerging trends in technology including drones, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Many speakers shared advice, motivating stories of their personal journey and experiences and encouragement emphasizing the importance of our mission at HITEC of "pushing up and pulling up."


DAY #1 - Leadership Summit Highlights
Thursday, August 24

For the past few summits, Accenture has sponsored a series of HITEC Women's Breakfast. Each breakfast has an open conversation talking about about bridging the gender gap in the technology realm. HITEC was honored to recognize Accenture and the committed Accenture team for its continued support of HITEC.

On the morning of August 24, the Leadership Summit kicked off with the HITEC Women’s Breakfast Series sponsored by Accenture and hosted by Fannie Mae. The 90-minute session focused on Closing the Gender Gap and what we can do today to start closing that gap in the IT industry. The breakfast was opened by Tujuanna Williams, Vice President & Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for Fannie Mae. Nellie Borrero, Senior Global Inclusion and Diversity Managing Director for Accenture, led the fireside chat where Julie Sweet, CEO, North Americas for Accenture, shared her story about being a women in the corporate world, paving her way to success, and how she works to close the gender gap.
Three concurrent sessions were offered at the D.C. Leadership Summit. KPMG hosted an invite-only Board Fit session focused on helping attendees understand the interests of investors. DRR Advisors' Founder and CEO Dr. Robert Rodriguez spoke about the strategy used by top ERGs to groom leaders and develop talent. Attendees learned how to brand themselves online in part two of The Digital You: Monitor, Measure, Maximize Your Brand Online presented by Salina Rivera, Founder and CEO of MIYAN Media.

For the first time at a HITEC Summit, the remarks made by Fannie Mae leadership were webcast to the Fannie Mae organization where close to 300 Fannie Mae employees tuned in to watch! Jason Birmingham, Vice President and Head of Capital Markets & Finance Technology for Fannie Mae, and Henry Cason, Senior Vice President and Head of Digital Products for Fannie Mae, spoke about the work Fannie Mae is doing.

Our Digital Transformation Panel consisted of Carlos Lopez-Abadia, Vice President and General Manager of Consulting for DXC.technology, Francessca Vasquez, Head of Americas Solution Architecture for Amazon Web Services, Juan Carlos Gutierrez, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of rational7, and Monica McManus, President and CIO for Rotary and Mission Systems of Lockheed Martin.

Andre Mendes, CIO / CTO of the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors, Carlos Fuentes, Vice President of Strategy and Architecture for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, David Morales, former Managing Director - State and Local - Technology Cloud Advisory Services for Accenture, and Francisco Salguero, CIO and CTO for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, participated in our Digital Transformation within our Federal Government panel.

The C-Level Technology Leadership Panel shared insights on the value of diversity and leadership across organizations.  Ricardo Barta, Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer, Americas DHL Global Forwarding led the conversation with great leaders such as Carlos Amésquita, Board Member for HITEC and CIO of The Hershey Company, Jeff Lunglhofer, Chief Information Security Officer of BNY Mellon, and Mark Roellig, Chief Technology and Administrative Officer of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company.
Alberto Yépez, Chairman of HITEC and Managing Director of Trident Capital, led the fireside chat where Nina Vaca, Chairman and CEO of Pinnacle Group, spoke about her experience of making it as a Hispanic in the corporate world. "The only difference between a little company and a big company is the number," says Nina Vaca as she continues to inspire and empower other Hispanics in the industry.

DAY #2 - Leadership Summit Highlights
Friday, August 25

Jorge Titinger, Founder and CEO, of Titinger Consulting, kicked off day two of the D.C. Leadership Summit by presenting on demystifying culture. He outlined key practices in how culture is conveyed.
CIO Leadership Across Government Panel moderated by Andre Arbalaez, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of Softtek USA and President of HITEC, consisted of Luis Arocho, CIO of the Government of Puerto Rico, Miguel Gamiño, Jr., CTO of the City of New York, and Tony Scott, CEO of TonyScottGroup, LLC.

Being a leader goes beyond the workplace. Danny Vargas, Chairman of Friends of the National Museum of the American Latino, Zandra Zuno Baermann, Senior Vice President of Communications and Marketing for UnidosUs, Esther Aguilera, President and CEO of Latino Corporate Directors Association, Raquel Tamez, CEO of SHPE, and Estuardo Rodriguez, Executive Director of Friends of the National Museum of the American Latino, shared how they give back to the Hispanic community.
The summit also featured a series of HITEC style TedTalks. The first was presented by Mariely Franzetti, Vice President of Support Services IT for Dell, on the importance of technology and how to balance one's career and personal life. Dr. Pablo Molina, CIO of Drexel University, shared his story of when technology first inspired him and how he has grown his career based on that passion. Greg Garcia, Director and CIO of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, rounded up the Ted Talks with his stories of traveling to different countries, being exposed to different cultures and learning different languages.
Frank DeArmas, CEO and Founder of DeArmas Strategic Counseling LLC and Co-Founder and Chairman Emeritus of HITEC, Bob West, CEO of Echelon One, LLC, Julissa Ramirez, Technical Program Manager of Commercial Drones for Intel, and Nisha Paliwal, Senior Director of Investment & Treasury Technology for Capital One, gathered together to talk about the latest emerging trends in technology, including drones, autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

The summit ended with the HITEC Rising Stars panel featured Ray Quiroga, IT Chief Operating Officer, US Technology for Fannie Mae, Michael Garcia, Vice President, Developmental Services for Fannie Mae, Julissa Judd, IT Program Manager for Lockheed Martin, Delia Gutierrez McLaughlin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Coda Technology, and Darrell Higueros, President and Chief Executive Officer of Next Generation, Inc. Each of the panelists shared their story of making it to their positions, improving skills and giving back.
