ITSMF hosts its annual gala symposium and awards ceremony
Washington, DC – IT leaders and business owners
from the public and private sector gathered in February to network, honor
colleagues and discuss emerging industry trends. The Information Technology
Senior Management Forum (ITSMF) annual IT symposium and awards ceremony is a
marvelous opportunity for black and Hispanic IT execs to network, collaborate,
and even look over the competition in today's global marketplace.
This year's event was the seventh. As it has been for the
past three years, it was co-sponsored by the Hispanic IT Executive Council
(HITEC).
More than 500 corporate, government and association execs and guests
gathered for the ceremony and the feature attraction: a keynote address by
Soledad O'Brien, CNN anchor and special correspondent.
In her keynote, O'Brien sent out a challenge to action,
promoting education and advancing the goals set out by President Obama in this
year's State of the Union address. She called on IT leaders for the creativity
and innovation the country needs to stay competitive in the global economy.
O'Brien also stressed the importance of education for the
next generation, particularly in the STEM fields. "There is incredible
power in standing up and standing for something," she said, urging her listeners
to take the lead in education reform and innovative technology.
The ITSMF awards
honor leaders who help both the IT industry and next-gen African-American IT
leaders. This year's top awards went to Sheila Talton, VP, office of globalization
at Cisco Systems; Jose Jimenez, president of the enforcement, security and
intelligence division of CSC; Robert D. Blackwell Sr, chair of Blackwell
Consulting Services, and Jerry Williams, CIO of HUD.
Special recognition awards were
given to Cisco Systems; Accenture; Art Hopkins, president & CEO of
Macquarium; and Fabomi Ojuola, president and CEO of Crestpoint Solutions.
The
symposium featured a lineup of IT industry leaders from the public and private
sectors. Premium-level sponsors were Bank of America, Cisco, Comcast, Cox,
Deloitte, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble, Target,
Wells Fargo and Whirlpool.
