HITEC Emerging Executive Program participant Carlos Quezada of HPE's Aruba, hosted two events with about 30 parents of 7th and 8th graders at HPE's Aruba Headquarters in Santa Clara, CA to “Educate, Motivate, and Participate.” The parent sessions were conducted in Spanish and included speakers from HPE Juntos ERG, Lyft, Adobe, Santa Clara University as well as HITEC member Jesse Betancourt of Oracle.

During this event, they took the opportunity to inform parents about the HITEC Foundation and created a Facebook group where they could all stay in touch and provide them with updates to any new programs or scholarships.

In addition, Juntos HPE ERG hosted about 25 Hispanic students from all over the south bay for "Lideres” Youth Fellowship visit. The “Lideres” Youth Fellowship is a 7-month, after school course that introduces Latino students to tech, business, career exploration and more. The program is led and provided by Yacanex, a non-profit organization that focuses on economic development for Latino communities.

The purpose of this event is to receive the students that are part of this year’s Lideres class and provide a better sense of what it is like to work for a leading company in the tech industry.

Apart from providing the opportunity to see the facilities, the idea is to build an experience that would help their professional growth.

On this visit, the goal was to give students a tour of the company,  and have them experience “a day in the life” of working in a high-tech organization.  Many notable executives visited the group including HPE chief legal counsel Willie Hernandez, and the HPE college intern recruiting team. Cindy Healy from Microsoft was the SKYPE conference keynote and Aruba's President, Keerti Melkote took some time to address the students.

Speaking on the students experience that day, Carlos Quezada remarked, "The students were very impressed, excited, eager to participate and inspired.  We plan to have this be the first of many events going forward."
